A Poetic Self in Bek seok’s Travel poems is shown to stray from place to place and does not settle down in any places, which indicates that his poems are mainly concerned with the ontological way of wanderer endlessly heading for another places. His every destination would be distinctive of chaotic image such as a port-city mixing with the routine and strange, place without its center. Those places are supposed to be disconnected from the discreet being due to the impossibility of inner experiences in the places in terms of the ontological way of wander.
In Bek seok’s Travel poems we are able to trace out the clues indicating that his poetic self looks forward to having free spirit through the various travels to the strange city and customs with his circumstance and surroundings taken off. The poetic self does not involve himself in and remains onlooker in everyplace. It means that he sometimes can not be the discreet being. The poetic self in his poems roams about the world and remains onlooker rather than the discreet being. It is the very eccentric point of Bek seok’s Travel poems. In fact the existentialism without self involvement does not probable but his travel poems designs the ideal freedom and hints the way-out to us.
During poetic self’s roaming, ‘the market without its center’ does not show its original function in the poems but uncover the onlooker’s situation. The poetic self appears in roaming about the port-city that mixing the routine is mixed with the strange. The severance of the passage to the strange place shows the roamer’s aimless situation. The human relationship in a strange city and residential area are associated closely. The poetic self’s roam can be translated as not only a plan for his own life but also an avoidance of his own situation.
