'In this study, we will compare the gender-identity shown between Naehoon which is considered as a typical book of ethics for women in the traditional period and Nyeja So-hak Shoo-shin-shyeo which was used in girls' schools during the enlightenment period, Naehoon and Nyeja So-hak Shoo-shin-shyeo represent books of ethics for women during the traditional and the enlightenment periods, and they have been used as typical teaching materials to realize the ideal image of women that is suitable for each time period. During the Chosun Dynasty, gender identity was determined by unequal values resulted from the yin and yang principles, which was the result of the patriarchal society based on the modern Confucianism. Women of the Chosun Dynasty were forced to play the roles that coincided with the patriarchal system of Confucianism, and they were reproduced through the enlightenment of various publications. The Enlightenment period could be given a positive evaluation, since women were given a chance to receive school education for the first time due to rapid social changes and women were able to secure their rights to be educated. The education provided to women was to make them into women in charge of family education so that they could cultivate the patriotic men of abilities who could contribute to the recovery of the national power, and women in charge of house chores and be frugal so that they could contribute to the wealth of the nation.
