『三代目』 is collected songs of the Silla era. It is called either 'SamDaeMok' or 'SaNaeMok'. If it is read as 'SamDaeMok', it is written in Chinese character, but If it is read as 'SaNaeMok', it is written in 'HyangChal', the Silla's declared system that made use of meaning and sound of Chinese character.
The Collected Songs named 『三代目』 should be read as a 'SaNaeMok'. The reason is as follows;
First, Since when the Silla was ruined, the word '三代', namely three periods, can be used. But when the book is edited, the Silla was not ruined.
Second, In the 9th century, at the time of the book is edited, 'HyangChal' is widely used as Silla's declared system.
Third, Because of the fact that 'HyangGa' means the funeral song, and , SaNaeGa, means the singing manner of voice of 'HyangGa', and the Collected Songs is collection of 'HyangGa'. Therefore it should be read as a 'SaNaeMok'. Here the word 'Mok' in the 'SaNaeMok' means the singing manner of voice.
The Collected Song is edited for the establishment of order according to Confucian ideas. From the middle period of Silla era, the Confucianism is accepted for the strengthening of regal power. The Confucianist believed that song and music have power to establish order. They collected various songs and named it 『詩經』, the Book of Odes. They enjoyed it in the Court. According to the Chinese model, the editors of the Collected Songs should have gathered diverse songs of the Silla era.
『三代目』(SaNaeMok) is regarded that it is consisted of folk songs, funeral songs, religious songs such as Shamanic and Buddhistic, and created songs.
