‘Liberation’ is the event of chaos and passion in the history of Korea literature. Choi Jung-hee represented that time in her works. However the existing studies on her have paid attention to pre-liberation fictions or valued the postwar novel, the history of Human Being. Because of this, I explicate the discourse changes and the meaning of the age of liberation focusing on Choi Jung-hee’s works around the age of liberation.
The three works such as the Village full of Refined Taste, Chumlae, and the Scenery where a Well is Cleaned commonly deal with the discord between landowner and tenant on the trisect sharecropping of harvest. Most stories progress by only ‘rumor’ the speaker heard from others.
Green Door published in 1954 shows two narrative voice. One, the main narrative contains the romantic love and anti-communist. This voice shows the pre-history in anti-communist narrative and is related to the nation-formation. On the other hand, the sisterhood and critic utterance is cracked with of the masculine authority.
Fictions of the age of liberation and postwar show the change from ethno to nation and contain the important agenda connected with the beginning or the formation of state such as the dissolution of Japan’s colonialization, land policy, imperialism, communism and American capitalism.
