This paper aims to respond to Professor Hyunsik Kim's critical review (2009, Yoksa Hakbo, vol. 200) of my book The Philosophy of Historiography (2007, Miumsa).
In his sharp and constructive criticism, Prof. Kim offered eight problems. While three of them are considered minor and less important, five problems merited serious theoretical point at issue. These are historical explanation, dualism of realistic and unrealistic epistemology of history, proof of objective historiography, and analogy argument and so forth, all of which cannot be easily dealt with. I answered the minor problems briefly, and discussed the serious theoretical problems in detail.
In conclusion, I pointed out that historical presentism, which Prof. Kim based his arguments on, cannot be justified as the closed system of epistemology.
