This study examined the relationship between the degree of internationalization(DOI) and the firm performance and moderating effects of the corporate capabilities on the relationship between the DOI and performance.
This study analysed 184 Korean top manufacturing companies which were seleced by the total amount of foreign investments from 1990 to 2003.
The results of multiple regression showed that the relationship between the DOI and performance got sigmoid shape as the DOI increased. And this relationship was different according to the corporate capabilities. The results showed that performance of the firms with high R&D capabilities decreased less than firms with low R&D capabilities in the high internationalization stage. Unlike the result of R&D capabilities, marketing capabilities did not decrease the performance loss of high internationalization stage. That is, only R&D capabilities of firms got moderating effects on relationship between the DOI and performance.
