The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of teenagers’ flow experience to sports participation on peer relationships. Furthermore, the study attempts to provide educational information to set a direction for solving teenaged related problems brought by today’s society. In order to pursue the purpose of this study, I have selected 377 students from 4 high schools in the South of Gyeonggi-do area using the convenience sampling method. The collected copies of questionnaires were analyzed through a frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple liner regression. A significant level in all statistics of data analysis was set to p<.05. Results derived from the above method and procedures are described as follows.
First, there were no evident differences in peer relationships according to gender, but there were statistical differences in peer relationships according to different grades in leadership, competitiveness, hostility and confidence. There were statistical differences in peer relationships according to the order of birth in leadership, competitiveness, and hostility. There were statistical differences in peer relationships according to social status in leadership, competitiveness, hostility and confidence.
Second, in order to examine the effects of teenagers’ devotion to sports on peer relationships, I used Correlation Analysis and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. The results showed there are big effects and small correlation between the teenagers’ flow experience to sports participation and peer relationships and the teenagers ’flow experience to sports participation had an overall positive effect on peer relationships. I found that mental immersion, active immersion and continued experience have a positive effect on leadership; active immersion and continued experience on competitiveness; mental immersion, active immersion, and a lack of a concept of execution on hostility; and mental immersion, active immersion, and continued experience on confidence.
