Purpose : This study was performed to explore the experience of the consumption behavior of health supplement in the elderly, and to identify its meaning. Methods : The data were collected by in-depth interview, and analyzed according to the phenomenological methods suggested by Colaizzi. The participants were 7 old peoples in K city. Results : The data were showed into 3 categories of 'expectation of health improvement', 'curiosity, competition and, pleasure', 'difficulty of problem resolution', and 6 clusters of themes ; 'obscure expectation for good health', ilmpulsive buying', 'be enjoyable', 'different with other', 'inappropriate problem solving', 'have trouble'. They had a lot of concern about health, so that they purchased it for well being and health promotion. It gave feeling of presence with same age group for the elderly, and spend time together. Also it was considered as ability and power of possession, and acquired superiority and differentiation according to purchase. But they had not appropriate problem resolution because of incorrect information and decision making. Conclusions : This study suggested that the elderly pursuit health promotion for own health. The result would improve the understanding of consumption behavior of health supplements in the elderly. But they had many problem in purchase of health supplements. This study would be utilized as basic data for proper intervention.
