Through examining children’s drama printed in ‘Eorini’, this study explores the perceptions of terms of children’s drama and analyses the features of children’s drama in terms of both content and form. In doing so, this work places a foundation for further studies.
The terms for children’s drama printed in ‘Eorini’ journal are as follows: children’s story drama; children’s story drama for the outside; children’s drama; boy’s drama; dialogue drama; girl’s dialogue drama; boy’s dialogue drama; theatre. Among these terms, the most frequently used term is children’s story drama, which derives from its motif which is usually children’s story. In the early twenties, children’s story drama was often used but in the thirties, children’s drama was more frequently employed and finally became the prevailing term.
The characteristics of the content of chidren’s drama are the emphasis of children’s right, playfulness, and providing lessons. The features of the form are the adequacy of running time, the simplicity of dialogue, and scripts for performance not for reading.
The precious legacy of our children’s literature, Eorini is needed to be examined in terms of individual works and individual writers. For example, Bang, Jungwhan, Ma, Haesong whose works were highly educative in terms of content and, Jung, Insub and Choi, Kyonghwa who left many children’s drama are needed to be explored.
