The ultimate goal of the study on sports coaching is to characterize the desirable properties of athlete coaches, and to find or train a coach with these characteristics. To achieve this goal, this thesis is to propose a comprehensive and practical model of the coaching knowledges. Sequential study is required to build a complete and, at the same time, practically applicable model of the coaching knowledges. The coaching knowledges should be classified properly into knowledge elements which may be conceptual but should be homogeneous in nature. The proposed structure shares a common framework with the teaching knowledge model. More specifically, since activities of a sports coach is very similar to those of athlete teacher, our model is based upon the athlete teaching knowledge model. By identifying the fundamental similarities and differences between athlete teachers and sports coaches, the structure of the coaching knowledge model has been derived with hierarchical classifications of the coaching knowledges into 4 high-level knowledge elements with several middle-level knowledf~e elements for each high-level elements.
