The purpose of this study was to compare the metabolic syndrome indices between pre and post menopausal women according to the participation of physical activity. The subjects of this study was 737 middle-aged women who visited for medical checkup. We divided all subjects into 2 groups(pre- and post) by menopause, then we compared metabolic syndrome indices between groups according the participation of physical activity(exercise intensity and frequency). The exercise participation rate of pre- menopause women was higher than post group, especially in mid- and high exercise intensity. The participation of exercise improved the metabolic syndrome risk markers in both groups. TG were decreased in low exercise intensity of pre and post menopause groups regardless of exercise frequency. HDL-c were increased by high frequency of exercise. Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in mid intensity was the lowest for pre- and post menopause. Exercise frequency more than 3 times per week might decrease the prevalence of metabolic syndrome for pre and post menopause women. With these results, we concluded that the participation of mid intensity exercise with over 30 minutes duration and more than 3 times a week might decrease the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and affect positively for both middle-aged pre- and post menopause women.
