This paper aims to investigate the verb production in 48-to-60-month-old Korean-French bilingual children (n=14) from mid-o-high socioeconomic families living in France and to compare them with monolingual Korean speaking children (n=14) living in Korea. The lexical abilities concerning action-related verbs in bilingual children were studied in 14 Korean-French children, compared with 14 matched control participants during an action naming task based on video-clips, called APPROX. The results show higher responses’validity rates as well as higher approximative responses’ rates for bilingual than for monolingual children. Korean-French bilingual children were also shown to have significantly higher ‘between-domain related verbs’ (namely, metaphor) rates than monolingual children. Our approach to the early acquisition of the verbal lexicon enables us to show that semantic approximations play a fundamental role during this period of lexical development, because this allows speakers to conceal their lexical difficulties and because they demonstrate the existence of semantic-cognitive flexibility in structuring the verbal lexicon.
