As personal income has increased and average working hours have shortened, people today have become interested in personal health and have started showing more concern in how to make good use of their leisure time. Complying with the current social trend, the increased opportunities in attending various sports events and participating in leisure sports have become the foundation from which numerous sports related industries have developed. In this report, the characteristics of sportswear and the relationship between the sportswear industry and leisure sports and discussed. in addition, by analyzing the procedure in which the sportswear industry has developed, the perspectives of the sportswear industry in the future and addressed. Based on the review of the characteristics of the sportswear industry, the writer concludes that the sportswear industry has matured in accordance with the development of sports activities in society. in addition, the sportswear industry today is an extremely important part of any kind of sports marketing as well as its own profit-generating operation. Although the Korean sportswear industry has a relatively short history compared to developed countries, the market potential of sportswear in Korea has been recognized by international markets due to its rapid economic growth in recent year. In order for the Korean sportswear industry to overcome these problems, several recommendations have been given. First, it is necessary to support the sportswear industry and related field at the goverment level. Second, through constant research and development, each individual company must implement not only product variety marketing strategies can embrace various age groups, socioeconomic classes, and consumer preference. Third, competitive edge of the Korean sportswear industry must be increased through products as well as material innovations. Finally, a reliable domestic brand should be developed and each company should exert more effort into relating the image of each product to its respective sport.
