The present study was conducted to determine the beneficial effect of Tackyun Pum-balb-gi training and Balance training on physical fitness and balance confidence in female elderly. 45 female elderly participants were divided into three groups; the Tackyun training group(n=15), Balance training group(n=15), and control group(n=15). Tackyun training group and Balance training group were similarly instructed to undergo stretching and Yoga(20 minutes) for good posture. And then, tackyun group performed Pum-balb-gi which is consisted of continuous form of Lunge and Squat exercise moving COG in the base of triangle form, and Balance group performed static and dynamic balance exercise for 30 minutes. Whole duration including cool down exerecise and stretching(10 minutes)was 50~60minutes and conducted 3 times a week. The period of this study was 12 weeks to evaluate the effects of exercise. The method of this study was used with physical fitness tester(HelmasⅢ, Korea) including % body fat, power, balance, agility, flexibility, and muscular endurance. FRT(Functional Reach Test), and ABC (Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale) was conducted to measure balance confidence. The data was analyzed by using SPSS WIN Ver.13.0. Correlation analysis and two-way ANOVA with repeated measures was applied at 0.05 level of significance. The mean age of the participants was 65.3 years(range, 60-74 years). At baseline, there were significant correlations between power, flexibility and ABC(Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale), and negative correlations between % body fat and FRT(Functional Reach Test), ABC(Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale). After the 12 weeks exercise program, % body fat, balance, flexibility, and FRT(Functional Reach Test) were significantly improved in both groups and especially power and muscular endurance was significatly improved in balance group more, while no siginificant changes in these parameters were observed in the control group. Thus, the presnet study showed the beneficial effect of Tackyun Pum-balb-gi and Balance training in female elderly. Tackyun Pum-balb-gi and Balance training was safe and well tolerated in female elderly and well-suited method for fall preventive program in elderly people.
