Gamcheon Culture Village has become a tourist attraction. Initially it was germinated by the dedicated efforts of the local government officials and local artists.
Now the active participation of the local community is very important. Sustainability of community building is impossible without residents participation. So we must see the residents’ roles of this decision-making process.
Viability of the community business at this village should be checked. Finally they must manage it for themselves without help from local government officials and urban regeneration experts. Gamcheon Culture Village is both residential area and tourist attraction. Changing declining residential areas into tourism development is not general regeneration method. Community building is the movement taking a long time. So it is not right to judge the success or failure of this village because the community building of Gamcheon Culture Village is currently underway.
