Christian Worship and Preaching in which God’s myth and People’s Parables are woven together. Affecting people’s ways of thought and life style, the culture of internet social-network based communication in twenty first century has been also challenging the cultures of Christian worship. The “rhizome culture” like weeds refers to the most recent culture in which people expand their networks of information and friendship for their needs or interests in unpredictable direction. This image of rhizome-culture is opposite to that of tree growing to the sky based on the roots of text and history, especially the biblical and historical traditions in Christian worship. For those who are living in the culture of electric rhizome, most Christian worships could be seen just as a worship act, in which many fossilized religious regulations are forced or only the transcendental revelation irrelevant to people’s reality is emphasized.
In this article, the author paradoxically insist that the essence of Christian worship is not to meet the mystery of God nor to deliver the religious teachings but to join the God’s mystery incarnated in the real life of Jesus. In other words, Christian worship is deeply related to the stories of the people in the world. Therefore the story of God and the story of human being should be emphasized, for the hope of God’s salvation would be more distinct in the stories of human’s desperation and laments. It is the essence and purpose of Christian worship. Citing some Christian leaders’ writtings and WCC documents, this article insists that Christian worship pursuits the ways to save and take care of the world, and thus both God’s story and people’s stories should be heard in a worship.
