The purpose of this study analyze the determining factors of the types of social relations and their changes before and after retirement. For the purpose of the study used the panel survey of Korea Longitudinal Study of Aging data from the 1st(2006) to the 3rd year(2010) to analyze the variables that determine the type of social relations for 378 retirees. The variables to explain the distant-social-relation type which was found commonly before and after retirement were lower income and unsatisfactory level of recognition ability and heath, which led them to the distant-social relation type. After retirement, they tended to belong to the distant-social-relation type rather than other types if they didn’t have spouses or lower satisfaction level of health condition. In our society, retirement is regarded as aging and severance of their roles, which make them tend to retain and shrink their social relations, and when the changes in finance and heath variables are negative, they had tendency to concentrate more on conjugal relations than support from children. Without a spouse, they raise the wall against the social relations, and it is required that practical help of social welfare for readjustment of social relations for retirees.
