The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of regular pilates exercise with roller on body composition, senior fitness, hip joint ROM in rural elderly women. The participants for this study were 56 of elderly women age 60 or over, who were assigned to one of three groups, an experimental (foam roller Pilates) group (n = 18), comparative (matt Pilates) group (n = 19), and control (non-exercise) group (n = 19). Pilates exercise program was educated 3times/wk for 12 weeks. Statistical analysis was done using repeated ANOVA with SPSS software program (version 15.0). Statistical significance was set at the level of p < .05. In consequence Pilates with foam roller improved lean body mass and muscle mass within body composition, upper and lower flexibility, agility and dynamic balance within senior fitness to perform functional tasks of daily living, and all subdivisions of hip joint ROM significantly. In Conclusion the results of this study suggest that regular Pilates exercise with foam roller is a useful exercise for having positive effects for improving flexibility, balance, agility, and body composition of rural elderly women. Thus Pilates with foam is recommended as an appropriate type of exercise for rural elderly women who are at risk for restricted functional mobility of daily living form farming and aging.
