In this paper, with respect to the perspectives of poststructuralism, studies on L2 learners’/users’ shifting identity(ies) are reviewed. The questions explored in this papers are: first, the distinction between structuralism and poststructuralism in discussing ‘reality’ and ‘identity’; second, what approaches the SLA studies has adopted’; and third, what kinds of limitation those SLA studies face in application of theories and methodologies. My conclusion on these questions, then, is that L2 learner’s identity(ies) is multiple, shifting, and co-constructed through discourse in interaction as practice in community where learning takes place. This perspective, then shows the connection of macro and micro relations through operating decontextualized contexts and problematizing given beliefs and world views.
