The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of sports injuries by position in women’s handball players. The focus was on the grasp of injury regions, injury types, name of injury and injury situations by position in women’s handball players. The questionnaire consisting of 8 items were distributed to 104 players of 8 women’s handball teams that participated in the SK Handball League 2016. 104 effective samples were collected for statistical processing. The Chi-square test was conducted for the characteristics of sports injuries by position to derive study results. Finally, the following conclusions were drawn. First, the cross tab analysis of injury regions by position was made in women’s handball players. The results showed that the most common injury region was legs in all positions and there was a statistically significant difference in frequency(X²=20.985, p<.05). Second, the cross tab analysis of injury types by position was made in women’s handball players. The results showed that the most common injury type was a ligament injury in all positions and there was a statistically significant difference in frequency(X²=32.300, p<.05). Third, the cross tab analysis of injury situations by position was made in women’s handball players. The results showed that the most common injury situation was bumping into other players in all positions and there was a statistically significant difference in frequency(X²=76.232, p<.001). The most common name of injury was contusion and sprain but the cross tab analysis showed no significant difference in frequency.
