This paper examines the use patterns of cohesive ties exposed to a certain level of college freshmen’s writing. First, according to the level of learner, the use pattern of the cohesive ties shows that the group that is supposed to be a superior learner uses the cohesive ties more in the actual writing. This shows that the use of cohesive ties is also increased in proportion to the increase in the number of T-units. However, there were no significant differences among the groups in the use distribution by cohesive ties category. Second, there was no difference between the explanatory texts and the argument texts in terms of the use of the cohesive ties according to the division of writing. In the case of essay, the omission was more prominent than the other two. This is because the subjective attribute of the essay is expressed in the actual writing process. This is notable between the two groups
This paper quantitatively examined the use patterns of cohesive ties for a certain number of groups. However, it is difficult to see that the target learners are limited to freshmen in college, It also highlighted the theoretical problem that more precise cohesive ties separation should be done.
