Suzan-Lori Parks introduced Brecht’s various theories about epic theatre to Fucking A on the idea of encouraging the audience to call a critical view and social reform. Parks also used dramatic devices for their change, as Brecht aimed at the transformation of the audience"s consciousness and attitude toward the goal of social reformation. These dramatic devices were used for the alienation effect for excluding the emotion of the audience from the characters by putting them at a critical distance. In aspects of form, there are mainly isolated stage backgrounds, episodic structures, frequent rests, Talks, and songs. In aspects of content, there are Gestus of acts, the mark that the protagonist, Hester leaves on her son and killing of a son, and Gestus of words, Talk that Subalterns used as their own voices in the Dystopia world. Based on these alienation effects and Gestus, Parks shows Hester as a monster, not a mother of compassion.
