Purpose: The aim of this study is to measure the occurrences of bi-phonemes in first grade elementary Korean language textbooks. Methods: In this study, the frequency and order of bi-phonemes(C$C, V$C, V$V, ŋ$V) were analyzed by performing phonetic transcription of sentence in first grade elementary Korean language textbooks. A total of 2,264 sentences and 12, 962 word phrase were transcribed. Results: The total number of C$C bi-phoneme types represented was 74 types and total number of C$C bi-phonemes was 6,308. 10 types of C$C bi-phoneme types covered over 50.8%. The frequency of C$C bi-phoneme were represented in the order of ‘p ̚$s*’>‘l$g’> ‘n$n’>‘ŋ$g’>‘m$s’>‘n$ʥ’>‘n$g’>‘n$d’>‘n$s’. The total number of V$C bi-phoneme types represented was 187 types and total number of V$C bi-phonemes was 6,308. 14 types of V$C bi-phoneme types covered over 51.3%. The frequency of V$C bi-phoneme were represented in the order of ‘i$d’>‘a$ɾ’>‘ɯ$ɾ’>‘i$ɾ’>‘a$g’>‘a$n’>‘n$g’>‘i$g’> ‘a$m’>‘u$ɾ’>‘a$ʥ’>‘i$m’>‘o$ɾ’>‘i$n’>‘u$n’. The total number of V$V bi-phoneme types represented was 123 types and total number of V$V bi-phonemes was 3,099. 10 types of C$C bi-phoneme types covered over 50.6%. The frequency of V$V bi-phoneme were represented in the order of ‘a$jʌ’>‘a$jo’>‘ɛ$jo’>‘u$ʌ’>‘ʌ$jo’>‘i$ɛ’>‘a$ɯ’> ‘i$ɯ’>‘o$a’>‘i$ja’. The total number of ‘ŋ’$V bi-phoneme types represented was 9 types and total number of ‘ŋ’$C bi-phonemes was 479. 10 types of ‘ŋ’$C bi-phoneme types covered over 66.4%. The frequency of ‘ŋ’$V bi-phoneme were represented in the order of ‘ŋ$ɯ’>‘ŋ$i’. Conclusions: The total number of bi-phonemes types represented were 393 types and total number of bi-phonemes were 22,523. 36 types of bi-phoneme types covered over 50% of the data.
