This paper analyzes semantics of aspectual auxiliary predicate ‘-e issta’ in the relation to the semantic structure of main predicate ‘issta (exist)’ based on Pustejovsky (1995)’s Generative Lexicon Theory. The main predicate ‘issta (exist)’ means the spatial existence of physical object and the auxiliary predicate ‘-e issta’ means the continuation of the resultant state, a kind of temporal existence. This meaning of the auxiliary predicate ‘-e issta’ results from the property of the connective ending ‘-e’ marking the telic event of the preceding clause and the functional application. Also because of this property of the ending ‘-e’ the auxiliary predicate ‘-e issta’ can take only typical achievement and degree achievement as an argument. The main predicate ‘issta (exist)’ and the auxiliary predicate ‘-e issta’ has the same event structure, while they have different argument structures from each other. The main predicate ‘issta (exist)’ has two arguments, one theme argument (physical object) and one location argument, but the auxiliary predicate ‘-e issta’ has one theme argument and one event argument which means a resultant state. This implies that the meaning of ‘-e issta’ is more abstract than that of ‘issta (exist).’ As well, it can be explained that the meaning of ‘-e issta’ sentence is derived from the composition of the main predicate ‘issta (exist)’ clause and the auxiliary predicate ‘-e issta’ which is a kind of event function.
