-Ko issta construction in Korean can produce a resultative reading as well as a progressive reading. In order to explain why more than one reading is obtained from the construction, it has often been proposed that -ko issta has more than one syntactic structure or more than one function. In this paper, however, we propose that resultative readings of -ko issta construction result from the durative feature of -ko issta coupled with the aspectual properties of the combined verb. In our proposal, it is shown that a transition point in the schema of events is a prerequisite for obtaining a resultative reading, and the condition of ‘inalienable relation’ must be met for an accomplishment verb to produce a resultative reading. Also, categorizing inchoative verbs as an independent aspectual type of verbs is essential in accounting for the resultative readings in cognitive verbs combined with -ko issta.
