The paper explores English resultative construction with a data-based cognitive grammar approach. It investigates English resultative construction with open, clean, and off complements in terms of frequency of the 30 top verbs occurring in the target complements, their collostructional strength with open, clean, and off, and semantic characteristics of prototypical verbs in the resultative. The results are as follows: (i) the frequency of verbs occurring with open is highest and that of the verbs in off complement is lowest, forming a cline: open ＞ clean ＞ off; (ii) 48 verbs out of 90 selected verbs show the MI value higher than 3.0 and open and clean complements exhibit the largest and smallest numbers of verbs with collocational strength; (iii) frequently occurring verbs in the resultatives entail a state change or motion with a start and end point, and all the 43 verbs can be classified accordingly.
