The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of Hittite costume culture and to increase an understanding of costume culture in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Mediterranean region. In particular, this study focuses on the costumes carved in Yazilikaya relief of the ancient Hittite Empire. The basic attire of Hittite man are a loincloth, a wide belt, a pointed hat, and shoes with upward toecaps. It also consisted of a long overskirt with open front, a floor-length skirt that jutted out on the sides, an ankle-length robe, a shawl with pointed ends, and a round hat. It seems that these were variously worn according to the wearer"s status. The basic costumes of Hittite women are a blouse and a pleated skirt, a wide belt, a cylindrical pleated cap, and shoes with upward toecaps. The blouse featured dolman sleeves and the waist of blouse is pleated vertically with a wide belt tightened. The ankle length skirts are pleated in the vertical and oblique directions, although it is not clear whether this is the difference in how to dress or pattern making. These Hittite costume is a combination of ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Cretan costumes, which is reborn as Hittite"s unique costume. Based on this, it is evident that there existed a flow of cultural exchange in the development of ancient costumes.
