This study aims at examining the characteristics of Chosunjok in the folk tales of Chosunjok. The folk tales are both popular literature and national literature, because they exhibit the national characteristics of the populace. As it is well known, Chosunjok is a people whose nationality is China but whose origin is Korean. This is the reason the It, therefore, checks the way Korea response to China's behavior and how the confrontation between China and Korea is developed. In the end, the difference between the folk tales of Korea and those of Chosunjok in treating China's behavior will be disclosed. In the folk tales of Korea, China's role is always fixed as both an assailant and a national enemy of Korea. The Korean face boldly and defeat the China's harmful act. The Korean who win a victory in the confrontation with China are the populace alienated from the ruling class. The folk tales of Korea severely criticize the inability of the ruling class by way of story development system like this. In the folk tales of Chosunjok, the character of China is not described as clearly as in the folk tales of Korea. When China is set negatively in the folk tales of Chosunjok, it is called as neighboring country or the country in the north, and sometimes the name of country doesn't appear at all. This kind of technique seems to be the result of the national limitation of Chosunjok who want to avoid the direct confrontation of China and Korea. The persons who are described negatively in the folk tales of Korea such as Zhu yaun zhang, Li ru song, and Ruerhachi are described affirmatively in the folk tales of Chosunjok. When Korea confronts China directly, they try not to insert national feelings but to show a friendly competition. This phenomenon in the folk tales of Chosunjok seems to originate from the historical situation of Chosunjok in China. This seems also to be related with the socialist policy of China which shows a sensitive reaction to and controls severely the national consciousness of minor peoples. We find the Korean keep the national consciousness in the folk tales of Chosunjok, though it is implicit. The Korean are symbolized as people who wear white clothes. We can conclude that this phenomenon shows the national limitation of Chosunjok who have to live as citizens of China under the ideological control.
