Since 2015 National Curriculum which is based in ‘Understanding by design(with backward design)’ has been introduced into Korean Language Education, it is necessary to examine thoroughly how Ubd is connected to existing curriculum discourses in Korean grammar education. As a rationale dimension, Ubd with backward design could not be a new and alternative curriculum discourse, partly because it has to still explore how to teach core concepts not unlike the discipline-centered curriculum by Bruner(1960), and also partly because all the part of enduring understandings could not be explicitly assessed. As an implementation dimension, however, it is highly implementable curriculum dicourse with a detailed template, especially authentic performance tasks. Therefore, support system such as more detailed curriculum documents with essential questions, performance tasks should be developed and offered to teachers.
