This paper stemmed from a realization that musicology should consider in depth the methodology that is pursued in “Digital Humanities,” including the digitalization of primary sources, and Linked Data that syncs information about these sources through the Semantic Web. With the current emphasis on the 4th industrial revolution, humanities and musicology as a field of study based on humanities, is faced with a challenge of developing creative contents by developing, combining and applying digital technology with clear methodology in an environment of digital technology. Although it is important to construct music-specific databases and archives based on detailed musical considerations, new branches of musicology should be established, including the technology to read and analyze the linked data in the digitization of musical information and newly expand the scope and subject of research, and to extract contents linked by context. This paper introduces the history of digital musicology, which is not well known to Korean music academics, and the techniques and operations used in digital musicology. Ultimately, this study is meaningful in that it is a foundational study necessary for the fostering of new age musicologists who are skilled in computer language and will develop new fields of music research through the development and operation of music related digital programs.
