This study aims to lay the groundwork for musicology curriculum research in Korea. For this purpose, four musicology majors were selected from those available at three world-class universities, each ranked highest, from Korea, the US and Germany in the 2014/15 QS World University Rankings. The paper then grasps each major within four frameworks, which are the educational policies, the major organization system, the contents of the courses, and the degree requirements, with the latter divided into the following indicators: bachelor degree abbreviations, cross-listed courses status, graduation credit, major credit according to single and double majors, established courses credit as well as the respective proportions. These discussions are integrated, compared and analyzed, including details about the ratio data of the courses, representing the percentages of the courses which teach western and non-western music, and the rate of securing major individual courses. In addition, the ratio data of the courses are considered using the following categories: introduction, principles and research methods, basic music theory, superior music theory and analysis, music history, field work, general musicology, career directions, academic writing and thesis, peripheral skills(e.g., performances), popular music, and others. In conclusion, the article draws results given the above issues and presents future directions for improvements, citing Music History Major, College of Humanities, SNU as an example.
