Thai Fictions, Muangnimit / Khukam and the World War II

The fictions of thai writers such as Riameng and Thomyanti are the works to be read in order to understand the 1940~1950's thai social circumstances. These two writers disclosed the misery of war and attacked the real nature of human through a deep insight into the World War II. They also found and safeguarded the humanism.
Through the novel Muangnimit and Khukam, Riemeng and Thomyanti described the thai society under the World War II realistically which is under the control of Phibun, Rathaniyom(Phibun's nationalism) and realized the thai people's patriotism and anti-Japanese. Besides, they showed their humanism and recognition about the social reality.
Thomyanti groped and emphasized the nature of human being and the worth of love that surpassed the nation and class with the creating the hero, Kobori and Anagsumarin, but Riameng showed his limited views on love and patriotism. The hero, Suriya, a person of half thai and half japanese committed suicide as Samurai do in spite of his love to Thailand and everything about Thailand, but Rangsit and Pakka overcame the reality of war and found mutual worth. This is the difference between these two writers. At last Kobori gave up the Samurai spirit, although he was born as a Samurai, but on the other hand, Suriya completes his mind back to a Samurai even though he was born only as a semi-Samurai.
Novels are the mirror of the real life of the persons at that times. Also, novels are creatures written by the man of the times. Therefore literature works are the product and reflection of the society. The two fictions of Khukam and Muangnimit accurately describes the reality of the wartime society of Thailand which was formed with historic conditions and objective reality in those days.
