This thesis studied the close connection of the rural community, ethnic and novel focused on Sim Hun‘s novel 『The Evergreen Tree』. Sim Hun was the elite group of colonial and a modern boy in era 1920～1930s. But he moved to Dangin from Seoul in 1932. He created『The Evergreen Tree』 on Dangin in 1935. 『The Evergreen Tree』 was the prizewinning work in the prize contest sponsered by the newspaper publishing company 『The Dong-A Daily News』. This study considered the method of organizing the peasantry of ‘Hangoklee’ and ‘Cheonseakgol’ as a nation in 『The Evergreen Tree』. Sim Hun supposed the farmers of ‘Hangoklee’ and ‘Cheonseakgol’ as the pure and active nation in 『The Evergreen Tree』. Sim Hun imagined the farmers of ‘Hangoklee’ and ‘Cheonseakgol’ would be the future of Korea on the colonial period. Sim Hun excluded the negative and extravagant people from a nation in order to suppose the farmers of ‘Hangoklee’ and ‘Cheonseakgol’ as a pure and active nation. And this thesis studied the connection between nationalism and gender concentrating on the relationship between the man leader of enlightment ‘Park Dong Hyeok’ and the woman leader of enlightenment ‘Chae Young Sin’.
