Seven of eleven laws of "De los moros" in the Siete Partidas deal with conversions. Siete Partidas's position with regard to Muslim converts to Christianity is based on traditional canonical decrees originating with Gregory the Great. Though the laws of the Siete Partidas objected to the coercive conversion, the inducements to conversion preferred by the Christians may not have been different from bribery, including mental and material attractions.Siete Partidas's primary concern is with Christians converting to Islam. The code details the punishments various converts to Islam will receive respectively. As the Muslims were recognized as both religious and political enemy, the Christians who converted to Islam were deemed culpable of great evil and treason. The code worried about the political impacts of converting to Islam.
