This study is to examine the effects of multicultural education utilizing multicultural children’s literature on three children with Philippine backgrounds. It also aims to study multicultural children’s characteristics, experiences, and English reading attitudes revealed in the course of the lessons. The lessons were conducted for one year utilizing 16 English picture books. Mixed methods of research methodology were adopted. Data were collected from survey, observations, work samples, and interviews. The result of this study showed that using multicultural picture books has positive impacts on understanding diverse cultures, and positively affects the participants’ English reading attitudes. It also revealed that engaging with multicultural picture books gave participants the opportunities to actively share characteristics and experiences as multicultural children. This study points out the necessity of embracing critical approach to multicultural education beyond the emphasis on understanding diverse cultures. Adopting the critical approach in class will also be helpful for other children in broadening their world views and understanding different cultures and people.
