Dahyang, a new six-rowed and covered barley cultivar, was developed from the cros betwen Milyang26/NICS, RDA in 2005. Among the crosses made in 1994, a promising line that showed both high yield and lodging resistance in theYield Trial tested at Suwon in 2002, was designated as Suwon 393. It performed good in the Regional Yield Trials(RYT) tested at five locations in Korea for three years from 2003 to 2005, and was released as the name of Dahy-ang. It pertain to the growth habit of . check cultivar Olbori, and compact spikes with long rough awns. Its heading date was April 27 in upland, and April 20 in paddyfield conditions. Maturing time was May 31 and May 22, which were two and one days earlier than that of Olbori, respectively. The new cultivar Dahyang had 85 cm of culm length and 4.1 cm of spike length. It showed 676 spikes per m2, 51 grains per spike,BaYMV(Barley Yellow Mosaic Virus) resistance than those of the check cultivar, Olbori. Seed storage protein content, β-glucancontents and pearled grain rate showed similar to check cultivar, Olbori. But it showed higher sensory score for barley tea than thatof check cultivar. Average yield of the pearled grain in the regional yield trial was 4.64 MT/. in upland and 4.46 MT/. in paddythearea above the daily minimum temperature of -8oC in January in Korean peninsula.
