The purpose of this study is to examine its developmental aspects of the adnominal clauses usage from 2 to 5 years old. The participants were 40 ordinary children of even genders. Every adnominal clause used by the subjects was collected from 3 hours of spontaneous speech from the recordings of their casual conversation, which was categorized into clauses type and head noun usage type depending on each sub-classification. The results are as follows. (1) the frequency of adnominal clauses usage increased with age and there was a statistically significant difference. (2) other clauses were most often used among the complementary clauses, relative clauses, other clauses concerning the usage type according to the type of the adnominal clause. (3) the verb was most often used about the type of parts of speech in the predicate in the adnominal clauses. (4) the part of speech of head nouns consisted of common nouns, dependent nouns, and proper nouns-the dependent nouns were most often used and proper nouns were rarely used. (5) the components of relative clauses in the head noun were utilized primarily as subject and object. This study discovered that children aged 2 can use a variety of adnominal clauses. The significance of this study can be found in measuring the usage type after categorizing the adnominal clauses into various subtypes while utilizing spontaneous speech that reflects the daily life of children. The research findings can be used as preliminary data for further research on linguistic development, diagnosis of language-disordered children and intervention as well.
