This study deals with Freud’s understanding to religion and its evaluations. The study also explores the interpretation of Christian spirituality with Freud’s understanding of religion and its applications in the practical context.
What are the nature and the origin of religion that Freud found? Is our faith simple confidence and obsessional religious rituals or is that pure faith seeking the kingdom of God? With rising of the Covid-19, world citizen are facing the crisis of the era of the virus infection. In Korea, the 31th patient, who is a member of cult group, Shincheonji(new heaven and new earth), brought the rapid spreading of virus in Daegu city and Gyeongsangbuk-do province. How could this kind of blind belief of religious cult group be seen?
As answering this question, this study examines Freud’s understanding to religion and its practical application in the context. The structure of this study is as follows. Chapter Ⅱ deals with Freud"s understanding to religion and its limitations and benefits. In chapter Ⅲ, I will find the connecting point between Christianity and Freud’s understanding to religion from spiritual educational perspectives. In chapter Ⅳ, I will explore Freud’s understanding of religion and its practical applications in Christian context.
