Vocabulary knowledge can be a key determinant of how teacher candidates perform on the current Secondary School English Teacher Recruitment Exams(SETRE). This study sets out to develop a word list to facilitate teacher-candidates to acquire the vocabulary knowledge they need to be successful on the SETRE and to explore pedagogical implications of corpus-based language analysis. The word list was generated via a five-step process. First, a corpus of 119054 running words was generated from the SETRE that has been conducted over the past 19 years, spanning 2002 to 2020. Second, this corpus was parsed through the Keyword facility in WordSmith Tools 8.0 and Specificity tool in TermoStat, yielding term candidates. Third, the initial wordlist went through a trimming and filtering process, after which a total of 964 terms remained. Fourth, the refined wordlist was validated by four experts to ensure its legitimacy prior to substantiation and 209 words, provided by one expert, were added. Finally, the resulting wordlist was sorted, leaving a list of 638 terms, which were arranged in alphabetical order. Based on these results, some pedagogical implementations of the integration of a Data-Driven Learning(DDL) approach with a Present-Practice-Produce(PPP) methodology are addressed.
