Range-of-motion which has measured easy of movement is the quality of being flexible, the ability to bend and yield, or simply the amount of movement possible in a joint. Measurement of range-of-motion became important after World War 1 when pension boards demanded physicians provided an accurate estimate of a veteran's disability. A great variety of methods of measurement, instruments of measurement, and nomenclature resulted from this need to determine disability (Nicoloff, 1957). Since Brown used range-of-motion test method to determine the effect of clothing in 1954, it has been applicable for evaluating clothing mobility objectively in the U.S.A. The purpose of this research was to determine there was relationship between different equipments for measuring range-of-motion, and to provide basic data for researching functional working clothing. Independent variable was three different equipments (a Leighton flexometer, goniometer and computer-aided method) and dependent variable was range-of-motion measurement. The fire fighters in Kansas State in the United States were served as subjects. Test range-of-motion movements - shoulder flexion/extension, shoulder adduction/abduction, trunk flexion/extension (standing), hip flexion/extension (knee), hip flexion/extension (trunk), upper leg flexion, trunk lateral flexion, hip adduction, trunk flexion/extension (sitting), and upper leg adduction - were selected. Fire fighters were asked to move the selected range-of-motion with their coveralls. The range-of-motion movements were measured by Leighton flexometer, goniometer and computer-aided method. Order of testing was randomized. Correlatin coefficents (r) were computed for statistical analysis. The relationship between a Leignton flexometer and goniometer, a Leighton flexometer and computer-aided-method, and goniometer and computer aided method was analyzed. As a results, all three methods were fairly highly positively correlated.
