In this study, anti-inflammatory active compounds of Artemisia princeps, as a cosmetic raw material, were identified. Furthermore, anti-inflammatory active compounds and volatile flavor compounds contents variation by various deodorization were investigated. The 3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, jaceosidin, and eupatilin were reduced significantly NO production and proinflammatory mediators, such as iNOS, COX-2, PGE2, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, production in a concentration dependent manner. Deodorization process extracts were 65% EtOH re-extract that removed essential oil by SFE and 65% EtOH extracts respectively treated active carbons, bentonites, clay acids, GSP-07, 25, and 50. Among these deodorization process, the 65% EtOH re-extract that removed essential oil by SFE was increased 3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, jaceosidin, and eupatilin contents because essential oils and compounds were removed excluding anti-inflammatory active compounds. Dried Artemisia princeps, 65% EtOH Artemisia princeps extract and 65% EtOH Artemisia princeps extract treated deodorization were analyzed variation on volatile flavor compounds. The major volatile flavor compounds reported were removed in 65% EtOH Artemisia princeps extract treated deodorization, excluding caryophyllene oxide and α-terpineol. As a result, 65% EtOH re-extract that removed essential oil by SFE suggests that it is the most efficient deodorization process which had economic efficiency of using essential oils, high anti-inflammatory active compounds contents and reduction of volatile flavor compounds.
