Recently, the global markets for dietary supplements advertised as muscle strengthening efficacies have been constantly popular in the sport athletes. However, some cases on illegal adulteration of unauthorized compounds like the selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs) to improve their pharmacological efficacies have been often reported. The SARMs have similar properties to anabolic-androgenic steroids as synthetic derivatives of testosterone with efficacies for building muscle and side effects such as liver damage, and sexual dysfunction. So far, there are not pharmaceutical products related to the SARMs clinically approved. In addition, it has been prohibited to use the SARMs in sports since January 2008 by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List., and the products including SARMs purchased directly from overseas are banned in South Korea.
