Currently, tungsten (W) is the most-favored material for plasma-facing components in nuclear fusion reactors. Under an intense particle flux of hydrogen isotopes such as deuterium in a fusion reactor, the wall surface undergoes microstructural changes such as hydrogen embrittlement or surface blistering, resulting in the degradation of thermal and mechanical properties of the materials. The degradation of tungsten in these conditions limits the component lifetime and has adverse effects on fusion efficiency. In particular, a different state of the initial microstructure of tungsten can be significant in determining the degree of surface damage caused by deuterium ion plasma. Thus, it is an important issue to understand the plasma-induced modifications according to the various microstructures of tungsten.
