Objective: The goal of this study is to identify the UX issues regarding the multimodal interaction between users and intelligent systems (such as VR, AR, robots, and AI speakers) by using user-centered design techniques. Background: As artificial intelligence technology has advanced, intelligent interaction has developed and applied to an agent-type system such as VR, AR, robots, and AI speakers. However, most of the studies in multimodal interaction systems are currently focused on technology and less on the human factor point-of-view. Therefore, it is essential to expand the current knowledge with regards to these multimodal intelligent systems through the application of human factors investigation methodologies. Method: Key UX issues for each intelligent system domain (AR, VR, Robots, and AI speakers) were extracted through a user-centered design process. A total of 91 multimodal interaction scenarios were generated by six human factors and ergonomics experts through the braindump ideation technique. Duplicated ideas were removed and related ideas are combined resulting in the construction of 28 initial scenarios. Further brainstorming and suitability evaluation led to the selection of 8 key scenarios.
