This paper analyzes the writing age of Da Tang Sanzang Qujing Shihua through the names of the administrative region and Xiangshan Guanyin beliefs. The San Zang master and his party passed through HeZhongFu in Shanxi and JingDong road; and then returned to the capital from TianZhu state. This represents the process of entering TianXia from the outside world through borders based on the geographical concepts of the Northern Song Dynasty. HeZhongFu and JingDong road represent the boundaries related to XiXia and Jurchen. From these, it can be inferred that the book was written between 1099 and 1104, or 1113 and 1115.
Xiangshan Guanyin beliefs spread quickly from the literati to the people after the Biography of Xiangshan Great Mercy Bodhisattva monument was established in the Xiangshan temple in 1100. Taking advantage of printing advancements, the Xiangshan monument overcame the limitations of stone-carved literature. In HangZhou, Xiangshan BaoJuan was published in 1103, and a similar monument was set up in 1104. Thus, it can be inferred that the book was completed shortly after 1100. In particular, Cai Jing-who served as a calligrapher-gradually lost popular support after 1110. Therefore, based on Xiangshan Guanyin beliefs, it is reasonable to hypothesize that the writing age of the book falls within the range of 1100 to early 1110s. Ultimately, the book"s writing age can be inferred to be 1100-1104 or around 1113.
