With the Korean marine equipment industry as well as the Korean shipbuilding industry being the primary focus, this research intended to measure the localization rate of marine equipment in the Korean shipbuilding industry.
As a result, we found that there are certain differences in localization among 3 ship types of large containership, VLCC and LNGC. And the localization rates are distinguished between the number of cases and the value of cases too.
Furthermore, we investigated and found that the main characteristics of shipowners were another factor that affected the localization rate. This includes nationality and ownership type of whether being publicly or privately owned.
Finally, we tried to prove statistical differences through the Analysis of Variance method and discovered that all the factors such as ship type, shipowners’ region and ownership type affect to differences in marine equipment localization rate.
