The purpose of this study was to implement an early rehabilitation exercise program for 8 weeks after subacromial decompression in patients with impingement syndrome in order to investigate the effectiveness of the early rehabilitation exercise program through the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) and muscle function test (Biodex). Eighteen subjects of the study were divided into a control group (n=9) and an early rehabilitation exercise program group (n=9), and 50 minutes (time) were performed twice a week f or 8 w eeks from the day after surgery. The exercise intensity was gradually set according to the individual"s exercise capability over time and proceeded to the “slightly difficult” level of exercise awareness (RPE). In VAS, the main effect on time points was significantly different(p<.001). In OSS, the main effect of the time point was significantly different (p<.000). In isokinetic external rotation muscle function of the shoulder joint, there was a significant difference in the interaction between the time point and the group 60˚/sec(p<.002), 180˚/sec(p<.007), and the main effect on time point was significantly different 60˚/sec(p<.000), 180˚/sec(p<.000). In isokinetic internal rotation muscle function of the shoulder joint, the main effect on time points was significantly different: 60˚/sec(p<.000), 180˚/sec(p<.000). It is considered that early rehabilitation exercise program is effective for proper function of the shoulder joint as well as an earlier return to daily life. Future studies of early rehabilitation exercises will be required, however, for the progress of returning to daily life standards.
