To prepare for posthuman situations that may have arrived or may be in the future, critical posthumanism requires the acceptance of diversity and the individuality across the boundaries. Above all, it is a priority to put down the human-centered humanism and turn to the life-centered perspective to set ethical standards in a world of growing uncertainty. Posthuman Gothic works emphasize not the species units that are categorized with standards, but individual life units when differences between non-human and human are ambiguous, giving us an opportunity to consider uncertainty and diversity in humanity. The Southern Reach Trilogy, including Annihilation, Authority, Acceptance, is about the confrontation between an alien effect and human society. The plot reminds us of the concept of immunitas and humanitas in Robert Esposito’s theory. The response to each other of the alien effect and human society is like immune system operated when confronted with disease or infection.
