This paper is a comparative study on Korean Christianity and Korean Shamanism which is one of the lasting influential folk religions in Korea. Both Korean Christianity and Shamanism are similar in that they acknowledge the supreme God, spiritual beings, and blessings. However, they have different views toward the notion of blessings, the importance of relationships, and the continuity of relationships. In other words, Christianity stresses worldly as well as spiritual blessings, but Shamanism underscores only the worldly blessings. Whereas Christianity considers that the relationships with God, spiritual beings, and neighbors are important, Shamanism believers concern only their family members and themselves. In addition, Christianity differs from Shamanism in that Christianity pursues a continual relationship with God unlike Shamanism, which stops the relationship with the supreme God when their problems are solved. It is meaningful that this study, which considers the difference between Christianity and Shamanism, can give a distinguishing insight about the real Christian identity to Korean Christians who live in a multi-religious society in Korea.
