This study investigates the importance of the modern Bible translation through two of its critical figures, Eugene Nida and William Cameron Townsend. In this paper, it is argued that in the overall mission of the church, God uses catalytic individuals in each era, that God’s missional methodology is dynamic rather than static, and that God uses new forms of organizations based on time and context. This study has shown that whereas Townsend worked on missiological aspects of Bible translation, Nida focused on the science of Bible translation. Furthermore, their new approaches to Bible translation also helped in ushering in the transition from colonialism to nationalism. The results of this study also indicated that new ways to think about God’s mission (missio Dei) and new forms of organizations growing out of the needs of the context and fitting the times will form powerful tools for the spread of Christianity and the growth of the church.
